What Is Skin Flooding?
Just when you think you have gotten on top of the latest skincare trend, a new one comes along!
Skin Flooding is the latest TikTok trend to take over our lives. Heard of it? No?
It's probably something you are already doing without realising...

WHAT IS SKIN FLOODING?

Skin Flooding involves layering your hydrating skincare products in the most effective order on your skin to achieve the ultimate in hydration.
See, it's just like your regular skincare routine, just with more emphasis on hydration. TikTok has just given it a new trendy name.

WHO CAN BENEFIT

Most of us suffer from some level of dehydration on the skin (lacking water, not to be confused with dry skin which is lacking oil) so it is a trend that everyone can try. Keeping skin hydrated has many benefits including, supporting your skin barrier and giving your skin a youthful glow.

HOW TO SKIN FLOOD

To get the most out of skin flooding, you want to look for humectants (hydrating ingredients) in your products. Having a good mix of humectants is key to this trend. Hyaluronic Acid is the ingredient for hydration that you would recognise (it's just a tad famous these days) but there are other humectants, including some that are more effective than Hyaluronic Acid.  Hydrating ingredients to look out for include Glycerin, Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Pentavitin, Urea & Sodium Hyaluronate to name a few.

Step 1: Cleanse your skin & then leave your skin a little damp,

Step 2: Spritz your skin with a hydrating facial mist or toner,

Step 3: Immediently apply your hydrating serum, like The One (bonus points if it is a multi-tasker!!)

Step 4: You can add any other serums you are using in here & mist again if you choose,

Step 5: Apply a moisturiser to lock everything in place.

It is important to follow these steps in the correct order to get the most out of your products. If you are using a treatment serum for other skin concerns, you can add it in after the hydrating serum, before the moisturiser.

IS IT WORTH TRYING

Absolutely! It is so important to keep your skin hydrated, it helps to protect the skin barrier as well as plump up any fine lines and wrinkles and give the skin an overall youthful glow. It's also pretty easy to work into your skincare routine, you are most likely already doing it.

If you have overdone it with actives or exfoliation, this is also the best trend for you, as hydrating your skin is going to help with repairing your skin barrier. You should also consider Skin Cycling moving forward if you are using actives in your skincare routine.
